Mazhayundo is a free, community rain tracker for Kerala. We keep data collection to the minimum needed to make the service work, and we don't require accounts or logins.
What we collect
- Rain reports — when you report rain/dry, we store the pincode, the report type, a timestamp, and the area/district. We do not store your name or any identity.
- A hashed IP — to prevent spam and limit duplicate reports, we store a one-way hash of your IP address. We do not store the raw IP, and the hash cannot be reversed to identify you.
- Votes — when you confirm/dispute a report, we store the vote with a hashed IP (one vote per report).
Location
If you tap “use my location,” your device shares its coordinates with your permission. We use those coordinates only to look up the matching pincode/place, and we do not store your precise coordinates. You can always type a pincode or place instead.
On your device
We use your browser's local storage to remember your last pincode and language preference. This stays on your device and is not sent to us as personal data.
Third-party services
To provide the service, Mazhayundo sends non-personal requests to:
- Open-Meteo — weather/precipitation data
- India Post (postalpincode.in) — pincode and place lookups
- OpenStreetMap Nominatim — geocoding (place ↔ coordinates)
- OSRM — road routing for the route feature
- Weather Union — rain-gauge station data
- Vercel — hosting and privacy-friendly, cookie-less analytics (aggregate page views, no personal profiles)
- Turso — the database that stores the reports above
Advertising
Mazhayundo may display ads in future. If third-party ad providers (such as Google AdSense) are used, they may set cookies or use device identifiers to serve and measure ads. This section will be updated with details before any ads go live.
Your choices
You can use Mazhayundo without granting location access, clear local storage from your browser at any time, and contact us to ask about data. Since reports are anonymous and pincode-level, they cannot be tied back to you individually.
